Type faster. Prove it. Pick a mode to begin.

Live WPM and accuracy readouts while you type show you exactly where you're losing time, so every session actually makes you faster, not just more familiar with one passage.

Every test you finish gets logged to your profile. See your WPM trend over weeks instead of guessing whether you've actually improved since last time.

Mistakes are tracked and highlighted the moment you make them, so you learn exactly where to slow down, and where you're already safe to speed up.

Jump into multiplayer and race up to 5 other typists live. Nothing sharpens focus like watching someone else's cursor creep past yours.
fasttypes is a free online typing test and practice tool. Take a typing speed test, 1, 2, 3, 5 or 10 minutes, or any length you choose, to measure your words per minute (WPM) and accuracy, learn touch typing one keyboard row at a time, paste in your own text to practice, or race other people in a live multiplayer typing race. Everything runs in your browser, no download and no account needed. Sign up only if you want to save your results and track your progress.
Most adults type around 40 words per minute. Anything above 60 WPM counts as fast, and many office and data entry jobs look for 40-60 WPM with high accuracy. Use this chart to see where your score fits:
| Level | Speed | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Beginner | under 30 WPM | Still looking at the keyboard. Learning correct finger placement makes the biggest difference. |
| Average | 30-45 WPM | Typical for most adults. Fine for email and everyday messaging. |
| Good | 45-60 WPM | Comfortable for most office work and many job typing tests. |
| Fast | 60-80 WPM | Faster than most people. Typing is rarely what slows you down. |
| Professional | 80-100 WPM | The range of transcriptionists, data entry specialists and other professional typists. |
| Elite | 100+ WPM | Competitive typists, only a small fraction of people get here. |
Typing tests count a “word” as 5 characters, including spaces, so long and short words are measured fairly. Your WPM is the number of correctly typed characters divided by 5, divided by the minutes you typed. Mistakes don't count toward your speed.
Accuracy is the share of your keystrokes that were correct. If you pressed 200 keys and 190 were right, your accuracy is 95%. Aim for 95% or higher, accuracy is what makes speed last.
Some jobs ask for characters per minute (CPM) or keystrokes per hour (KPH) instead of WPM. To convert: CPM = WPM × 5, and KPH = CPM × 60. So 50 WPM is about 250 CPM, or 15,000 keystrokes per hour.
Why accuracy matters more than speed →Yes. Every mode on fasttypes is free, and you can take a test without creating an account. A free account lets you save your results and track your WPM over time.

Around 40 WPM for most adults. 60 WPM or more is considered fast, and professional typists often reach 80-100 WPM.
